Escape: Malice

A rebuilt episodic two-player escape-room horror experience rooted in fire, guilt, ritual and Jigoku.

PROJECT CONTINUITY // RENAMED

Malice becomes Escape: Malice.

Escape: Malice is the rebuilt and expanded version of the game previously released as Malice. Existing owners receive the new version as a free update through the same Steam application.

The redevelopment introduces reworked networking, redesigned puzzle mechanics, new story scenes, improved audio and visuals, a new interface and extensive fixes—released through an episodic act structure.

EARLY 17TH-CENTURY JAPAN

The fire was only the beginning.

Beyond Kamakura, in a village left behind by the rise of the Tokugawa shogunate, lives Hana: a former miko whose trances allow powerful patrons to seek counsel from places other shamans fear to enter.

When a reckless intrusion ends with Hana's home consumed by fire, the village tries to bury what happened. Investigators disappear. A curse takes root. Centuries of guilt, punishment and malice begin folding the house, the village and Jigoku into one another.

TRANSMISSION // TEASER

Descend together.

Escape: Malice turns communication into survival. What one player changes, sees or hears may be the only clue the other receives.

REBUILT PUZZLE LANGUAGE

Separated by design.

  • Information split in twoEach player receives different journals, symbols, sounds or spatial information. Progress depends on describing what the other cannot see.
  • Synchronized ritualSeasonal fans, patterned knocks, lanterns and seals demand correct timing and a shared understanding of the clues.
  • Observation over guessingFamily crests, Shogi movements, elemental offerings and purification rites reward careful exploration and deduction.
  • A shifting prisonLater spaces behave like enormous mechanical trick boxes: one player's lever, dial or route can transform the geometry surrounding the other.

FROM MALICE TO ESCAPE: MALICE

A stronger descent.

The new title preserves the identity of the original co-op horror game while rebuilding the experience around clearer communication, richer atmosphere and more purposeful interdependence.
